Biography

Hi, I'm Melanie, a UI/UX designer, a software engineer and a data scientist with a passion for creating beautiful, functional, and user-centered digital products. I have over four years of experience in the field, and I am constantly seeking innovative ways to turn my clients' visions into reality.

I believe that design is about more than just making things look pretty – it's about solving problems and creating intuitive, enjoyable experiences for users.

With the development world evolving and embracing more A.I capabilities, I am also passionate about leveraging the power of A.I in any digital product I create to make it more advanced and effective.

  • Lead Mobile Developer @Value Chain Factory (Retail Pay)

    May 2024 - Nov 2024 | Thika, Kenya

    Led the mobile development team at Retail Pay Africa, a leading tech solutions provider for retail outlets in Kenya. The role involved developing and managing a mobile application to assist salespeople with route sales and enabling Point of Sale cashiers to manage daily sales operations effectively. Additionally, I focused on maintaining high performance during peak sales traffic and strengthening security measures across Retail Pay's mobile platforms.

  • Software Engineer @Vanoma Limited

    July 2023 - Feb 2024 | Nairobi, Kenya

    Worked as a data engineer on a beauty product information system built in Python. The systems aimed to normalize different information from different beauty sites and used Openai’s API, particularly the Large Language Model (LLM) interface via ChatCompletion, to enhance how this data is presented to day-to-day users. Designed and implemented the web applications for Vanoma’s Survey and Reports using React with Typescript. Those applications enabled businesses to access market intelligence through a simple and intuitive interface, making graphing insights from the data easier. The project supported world-renowned brands such as L’Oreal in the beauty industry to gather and process necessary intel that led to tangible improvements in their marketing.

  • Frontend Mobile Developer @Sisitech Limited

    Oct 2020 - Feb 2023 | Nairobi, Kenya

    Build a mobile application with Flutter and Python for the backend, that helps users track their spending habits using SMS data from MPESA payment receipts. The project also involved building an expense clustering and spending recommendation model to help users get better insights. https://wavvywallet.com/.

  • Freelance FullStack Developer 

    Aug 2022 - Present | Nairobi, Kenya

    Worked in several client projects for small business and research groups in Kenya using Figma for the design process, the Flutter and Angular Frameworks for front-end and Django and PostgreSQL for the back-end and API. The automation these projects introduced contributed to the growth of the client baseand revenue of these organisations.
